Banded Sandstone necklace

Banded Sandstone necklace
Gorgeous striped Sandstone in a biscuit hue with banded stripes. I love the organic hues in this piece, feels very earthy.
The recycled glass beads are from Ghana. I love the unpolished texture of these beads, they almost look grainy and frosty like stones, and because each one is handmade from crushed glass pressed into moulds, each bead is slightly different and irregular.
Pebble has been smoothed by the sea against the sand so has a nice smooth surface.
Collected from Suffolk.
The Sandstone has some pretty banding in dark lines, the presence of iron or a metalliferous mineral. Because this is a very hard example it is probably silicified. The banding is created in different sediment depositional environments. This sandstone is sandy coloured and so probably created in a marine environment.
Made using a wire bezel technique I created, which is kind of a cross between basketry and weaving. It is a time consuming technique but a labour of love. Each piece of sea glass is securely and artistically encased in a delicate wire frame.
Surgical stainless steel findings. Highest quality stainless steel does not rust or tarnish, a hard wearing metal with a finish like antique sterling. Also suitable for people with metal allergies, stainless steel is used predominantly in the medical profession as people are less likely to react to it.
Necklace is 22-24 inches long with extender chain.
See photo of me wearing a similar necklace for idea of length / scale. Other variations available.
