Sicillian Terracotta, topshell, flint and maerl brooch

Sicillian Terracotta, topshell, flint and maerl brooch
This brooch is made from a lovely piece of sea pottery from Sicily, Italy, that I collected on holiday many moons ago. A stunning piece of terracotta with a dusty rose glaze that almost looks textured with a cloud type pattern. Terracotta is one of my favourite sea pottery finds and they are defo more prevalent finds in the Mediterranean. Paired with a Cornish beach pebble which is a nice tumbled speckled flint and a topshell. Also a piece of maerl. Maerl is actually a hard dried seaweed which feels like coral. Found in Scotland. Elements from all over the place!
Made using a wire bezel technique I created, which is kind of a cross between basketry and weaving. It is a time consuming technique but a labour of love. Each piece of sea glass is securely and artistically encased in a delicate wire frame.
Surgical stainless steel findings. Highest quality stainless steel does not rust or tarnish, a hard wearing metal with a finish like antique sterling. Also suitable for people with metal allergies, stainless steel is used predominantly in the medical profession as people are less likely to react to it.
