Platy Slate with Quartz veins necklace

Platy Slate with Quartz veins necklace
Kind of in love with this platy polished petrol blue slate. It may have come from a fault zone as it looks like it has been cut by two veins at different angles. One creamy coloured, the other a pale orange. Both quartz, the orange hue is created when iron oxidises.
Pebble has been smoothed by the sea against the sand so has a nice polished surface.
Collected from Charlestown. Cornwall.
When I think of the Geology of Cornwall, and growing up there, I think of slate. Nostalgic memories of beach days and slate smoothed by the waves and jagged platy fresh pieces being weathered away from the cliffface. These pieces eventually get smoothed by the action of tides tumbling the edges against the sand, they make excellent flat skimming stones!
Made using a wire bezel technique I created, which is kind of a cross between basketry and weaving. It is a time consuming technique but a labour of love. Each piece of sea glass is securely and artistically encased in a delicate wire frame.
Surgical stainless steel findings. Highest quality stainless steel does not rust or tarnish, a hard wearing metal with a finish like antique sterling. Also suitable for people with metal allergies, stainless steel is used predominantly in the medical profession as people are less likely to react to it.
Necklace is very swingy and long for a boho feel, its 30 inches long. Slips over your head. Other stones available. See photo of me wearing for length, pendant will be similar size to that pictured.
If you would prefer it on a different chain, or a different length, please get in touch for options.
